Our November Title

Lascivious Literate and Prurient Page Turners,

We are at the close of the October, we sincerely hope all of you who were able to read Wild At Heart enjoyed it immensely...I certainly did.
Now for the month of November we take a wild dive in to the modern male psyche with
Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk.

Yes indeed this months title goes out to emasculated, conflicted men reclaiming their identity and the bi-polar,suicidal,kleptomaniac women with really hot eyeliner that love them.

Copies of Fight Club are readily available at
Book Soup
and for online shoppers- Amazon is a treasure trove of copies!
If you are curious pick up a few other titles.
Survivor, Choke and Invisible Monsters please me greatly.

The meeting dates will be announced later this week...Also since I am partially relocating to Portland,Oregon I will be expanding the book club mission to the NW...Since I can't call it Nobody Reads in L.A. ( seriously...don"t even say L.A. in Portland )
I am toying with a new name.
As it stands Nighthawks at The Bookstore
or simply "Book Club" ( as in Rule #1) you don't talk about Book Club.) are shining bright.
Hopefully the books and movies will meet the with the same huzzah in the Rose City.
Updates on the postponed Barry Gifford event will follow soon as well.

We thank you- Now Get Lit!-

To Clarify..

To address the inquiries...
It does seems a little unclear from the search engines
about the state of affairs and the whosis and whatsis
of these wacky book club doings.
The group that uses "formerly Nobody Reads in L.A."
should be listing it as "formerly a part of"
WE ARE STILL HERE
and are not operating under
any other name.
Nobody Reads in L.A. is operated by
Miss Nico Bella and Miss Erin Levy
(Les Deux Dahlias)
and is supported, encouraged and egged on by Book Soup.

We will have another division called
"The Vice Scream Parlour"
launching in January but til then-
this is it.

I created the name and the concept
of the club in May of this year.
I had been holding on to it
since I moved to L.A. in 2003 and the
time was right to start it.

When I parted ways with
with my former associates I retained the name for my use.
They have gone their way and we wish them the
best , after all one can not wish ill on other literacy peddlers.
However, we are very excited about the fresh direction
the club has taken and
from the great emails I am receiving.
You, our "Lascivious Literates" do too!

See you at Casey's and
Get Lit,
XOXO-
Nico B.

Introducing...

Literate Ladies and Bibliophi-lic Boys,

may I introduce to you Erin Levy.
Erin is an employee of Book Soup and my delicious
co-conspirator in all things reading related.
You may also recognize her as the heart-breaker /ticket taker
for The Angel City Drive In.
Miss Erin and I are working together to ensure that all
your book club needs

are met and that your time as a participant in "Nobody Reads in L.A."
is as Shakespeare said, "totally kickass"

Miss Levy and I share a love of many things: whiskey, glitter and corsetry among said interests.
However, our bonding mutual obsession is The Black Dahlia.
We are currently at work constructing the second annual
Lost Weekend: Black Dahlia.
Last year we featured an art gallery, tours and film screenings.
This year we are focusing on not just the Dahlia , but the romantic iconography of crime and violence...
There will be art, live performances and other
marvelous tricks up our gorgeous sleeves.
You can rest ( in peace) assured we are up to
something and it will be unique and unrivaled.

We are also launching the Vice Scream Parlour- the all true crime and noir off-shoot of "Nobody Reads In L.A." that fine month of January.

on the upcoming meetings surrounding "Wild At Heart" and events with Barry Gifford.

Note please read the FAQ entirely before you email me with questions....please.
thank you ,

Fall/Winter Titles

L.A.'s original alternative book club.
Nobody Reads In L.A. was designed to be the "Book Club for the Nightclub set"
Our Mission, to put books in to hands accustomed to holding cocktails....

This Fall we relaunch the club with a modern vibe to appeal to the urban reader and we expand our reach to West Hollywood as Book Soup joins the fray.
Our focus will be on novels that spawned iconic films.
(Many of which you may not have known were books in the first place!)

Our Fall opener has us cracking the spine of the modern fairy tale
"Wild At Heart" by Barry Gifford.

This high octane true love story surrounds the romance between
modern literature's "Southern Gothic Romeo & Juliet"
Sailor Ripley and Lula Pace Fortune.
Made in to a remarkable cinema by David Lynch in
1990 who called it "a really modern romance in a violent world – a picture about finding love in hell.".
"Wild At Heart" had the world listening to Chris Isaak for the first time
and had everyone sayin'
"You got me hotter than Georgia asphalt."
As with most movies though...you only got half of the story.
Join us as we follow our star crossed lovers
on an adventure filled with my favorite M's
Murder,Mayhem and Make-out
A LOT OF MAKE OUT...

Our first meeting of the reconvened club will be

Wed. October 17th from 7-9
at Casey's 613 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90017 213.629.2353
This classic Irish pub- (that will be the site of the 2008 "Blooms Day")
has big tables and a great bar.

we will also be hosting a meeting in
West Hollywood on

thurs. October 25th
from 7-9
At Red Rock 8782 Sunset Blvd West Hollywood, CA 90069

We will now offer meetings on the east and west for every book
and we are working on
offering a screening and author events to accompany the titles.

FIGHT CLUB by Chuck Palahniuk

For emasculated, conflicted men reclaiming their identity

December:
(This month is always crazy with no time but I offer you a little jewel of a novella )
Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote.
Holly was very different than the girl we came to know Via Miss Hepburn...
For lonely girls in the big city who always lose their keys
and the gay neighbors who observe and take care of them.

Hope To See You There-
